Save Muny   "Legends of Lions"

Let's keep Lions Municipal Golf Course

History Continued

Since Lions Golf Course was last saved from the bulldozer in 1989, there have been nearly 1.1 million rounds of golf played there.  That makes it the busiest course in Central Texas and among the busiest in the state.  Lions ran about 20% more rounds of golf in that time period than the next busiest course in the Austin area.

Lions has hosted, and continues to host numerous prestigious amateur golf championships.  The Firecracker Open has a long and storied tradition as one the the premier amateur events in the State of Texas.  It was first played at Muny in 1946.  The picture below is from a reunion of the Past Champions of the Firecracker Open.

Lions has also played host to the State High School Championships every year, with very few exceptions, since the early 1940's.  Many, many state champions earned their medals on "Old Muny".
